Chapter 26

Love, Love, Love-This letter made me a little upset because it discussed all of the negative aspects about Love. Although I have seen love go wrong throughout my life, I still am a firm believer in the idea of true Love. It is hard to hear that Screwtape uses Love to manipulate us. However, I do understand the concept of selfishness and how that it can affect Love in a very negative manner and cause much confusion in relationships. Love makes you feel good, therefore instead of being in a relationship with someone and yearn to be there for them you only desire the feel good aspects of the connection. Love shoud be about give and take, and if selfishness is apart of your relationship there is bound to be probelms. There we must surrend our love to God and allow him to guide us in our humanly relationships.

Jacki---I totally agree with you on this posting. I too was disturbed by the idea that love can be used to manipulate us and may be merely a ploy to get what we ourselves want out of life. I personally believe in love as something much greater than that; love can go wrong if it is for the wrong reasons, which Screwtape undoubtedly hits on in this letter. But also, love can be what keeps us going through this broken world; a friend and a companion can be a godsend in a lonely, empty world.

I totally agree with you as well. I choose to focus on the unselfishness of the chapter, but that is all in accord with love. I agree that it is a hate on love. To which I too hold is out there, even though I have seen it in the bad sense.

I agree. I think once we find true love through God, relationships with others and finding love becomes easier. It also seems like people look for love before they are ready and that is a form of selfishness. I think once we know who we are we can really love someone else the way we love ourselves and God.
